Yarn arrived in three shipments begining last spring. We were eager to get started before the school year ended. Because our group is so large, we decided to work on two blankets simultaneously. This means we have duplicate squares; two wheat fields, two vegetable gardens, two ponds. How nice to have a knitting partner; someone to consult when questions arise, someone to encourage when things slow down.
A few knitters decided to be completely original and make their own patterns. Now we have a running river and a lavender/sunflower field. These take the place of one cornfield and one oatfield.
Anette entered her lavender/sunflower field in the Living Crafts competition and won an honorable mention for her design. Congratulations! She has since moved back to Germany. We miss her dearly, and her three daughters as well. Perhaps she will be able to return for a visit when its time to swap squares in May. That would be wonderful.
This road cleverly makes the transition between two farmyard squares. Its an eye-catching combination of bronze patina and ocean waves, done in stockinette. The barnyard is on the left, and the horse pasture is on the right.
Imagine the ponies, Star and Blaze, nibbling bluegrass while little farmhands feed the chickens. When their work is done, the children will go for a pony ride!
Special thanks to Hold Your Horses pony camp, a beautiful place to knit and relax for a few hours. I sorted and counted skeins for distribution last June while my daughter took a riding lesson. I was amazed at how these intense yarn colors truly matched the earth and sky. Our blanket will be bright and beautiful!
